Rewilding Skincare with Careeosity

“If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin. The average person can put up to 200 chemicals on their body, many of which are cancer causing and irritants,” explains Caree Woodmansee of Careeosity, the skincare alchemist responsible for our caffeinated salve Waken.

“I have always been conscience of what I put on and in my body and started studying what ingredients were in my own products at home and was amazed at how toxic they are for our skin and how they can penetrate even the deepest layers of skin and enter the blood stream.”

Caree, a certified organic skincare formulator, is part of a larger global movement advocating for non-toxic beauty products that minimize environmental impact. By embracing simple, organic, and wild-crafted ingredients, Caree emphasizes a return to traditional practices like maceration. “One of my favorite things to do is macerate my own organic herbs. You can use course or powdered herbs and they must be fully dried. This process is conducted at room temperature for 3 to 6 months. The prolonged soaking time ruptures the cell wall and drives the bioactive’s into the oil.”

What better way to honor our daily rituals than to radically purge our skincare routine of toxins? Our goal in collaborating with Caree was to create something gender-inclusive and versatile for year-round use. The aroma of coffee was intriguing enough on its own but this journey taught us so much about the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities of coffee essential oil. Caree patiently lent us her expertise over many months, formulating numerous iterations for us to sample. Our final product is grounded with the rich nutty profile of macerated organic plantain leaf and enhanced with a bright note of lemongrass.

Caree’s dedication to holistic skincare aligns with our mission to live simplistically and consume responsibly, we look forward to many more collaborations in the future.
