Art, Motherhood, and Transformation with Green Mountain Design Co

Amidst the demands of motherhood, Annalisa Bleasdell has found her identity as a self-taught wood artist. Anna’s work is a reflection of her constant evolution, “I always design thoughtfully first and then worry about how to execute once I’m in my wood shop. The only way to get better in any craft is trial and error…” Each of her progressively intricate pieces incorporates reclaimed lath from Portland’s many historic homes undergoing renovation. “It’s important to me to use local salvaged wood because of sustainability as well as its beauty. The color of aged lath is richer and has depth and texture.” For Anna, art is a way to reclaim a sense of self, “it is easy to lose yourself in the chaos of raising children so my artwork is very much something I do for my soul. It gives me a creative outlet to express myself and to challenge me to learn and grow as Anna, not just as mama.”

Inspired by Portland’s natural beauty and rich art culture, Anna is committed to sustainability, transforming discarded debris into works of art that celebrate both the past and the present. Beyond our collaboration, Anna’s work can be seen @greenmountaindesignco and is currently showing at Eras, in Vancouver, Washington.
