Sourdough and Design with Floaty Goat

“I want people to really enjoy the sensory experience of using my tools – not just the way they look, but the way they feel is a unique experience and the way they mix & scrape is also so specific and unusual.”

Living and working out of one of the small enclave villages that surround the historic industrial city of Leeds, England, Iggy Senior is deeply connected to the city’s rich heritage of craftsmanship. These villages, with their stone cottages and narrow lanes, are home to thriving communities of artisans who draw on the area’s heritage, creating a vibrant tapestry of local crafts that continue to enrich Leeds’ creative landscape.

Iggy’s interpretation of the iconic one-eyed spiral whisk, draws from the traditional Danish dough whisk—a staple in European kitchens known for its efficiency in mixing dough without overworking it.

I always thought that the one-eyed spiral style… was strangely interesting, and that a whisk of this style had the capacity to be really beautiful and even elegant. I started looking at different types of mid-century whisks and became very inspired. If you think about it – the design of the spirals of the whisk can really be anything you want them to be, as long as the steel spirals are going a few different directions and incorporating a few different layers.

The concept for a mid-century inspired whisk quickly turned from idea to drawing, to a search for a manufacturer. This search led Iggy to Zach Pygall, a local craftsman who started his career as a luthier before founding The Retuned Wood Company in Leeds. Zach’s enthusiasm and expertise made him the perfect partner to bring Iggy's vision to life. Together, they’ve created a line of kitchen tools that blend utility, innovation, and meticulous attention to detail, a collaboration that reflects the rich tradition of craftsmanship in their community.

I think our designs are straightforward enough to be easily understood for their utility, and also elegant enough to hopefully be passed down as heirlooms for generations to come.

Harbour carries a set of Iggy’s sourdough utensils which include a danish dough whisk, spurtle spatula, and wooden bowl scraper.
